Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third daughter of their family. When she was a young girl, Roman's carnival-barker father passed away and made her mother Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as a waitress or cleaner in order for them to be able to survive. Ruth grew in a poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She attended school there. She only attended school for two years before taking a break to pursue her acting career. There were many hurdles to overcome on her chosen career path. In New York she was hired to do a photo shoot for a publication about crime however, no theatre opportunities were offered. After that, she was a hat check girl at the nightclub before calling her quits and relocating to Boston. As an usherette, she worked in the mornings and appeared at the New England Repertory Company by night, which was her first ever permanent acting job. Also, she studied drama. She ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
